Last week Tacoma Power recovered 5,330 coho adults, 405 jacks, 2,251 fall Chinook adults, 63 jacks, 47 summer-run steelhead, 16 sea-run cutthroat trout and two winter-run steelhead during seven days of operation at the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery separator.
During the past week Tacoma Power employees released 748 coho adults, 27 jacks, 102 fall chinook adults and five jacks into the upper Cowlitz River at the Skate Creek Bridge in Packwood, 1,410 coho adults, 96 jacks, 1,008 fall chinook adults and 29 jacks into Lake Scanewa behind Cowlitz Falls Dam, and 216 coho adults, 12 jacks, 200 fall chinook adults and five jacks into the Cispus River near the mouth of Yellow Jacket Creek.
Also during the week 847 coho salmon adults, 48 jacks, 765 fall chinook adults, 19 jacks and six cutthroat were released into the Tilton River at Gust Backstrom Park in Morton.
River flows at Mayfield Dam are approximately 4,920 cubic feet per second on Monday, October 24.
Anglers should note the night closure and anti-snagging rule has been extended through November from Mill Creek to the barrier dam. All fish must be hooked inside the mouth when the anti-snagging rule is in effect.
Cowlitz River from posted sign on Peters Road to the mouth of Ohanepecosh and Muddy Forks, Tilton River from mouth to West Fork, and the Green River – Oct. 31 is the last day of the night closure and anti-snagging rule.
Horsethief, Packwood, Walupt, and Willame lakes and Lewis River Power Canal – October 31 is the last day to fish.
Kalama River – Anglers are catching some coho and a few fall chinook and steelhead. Oct. 31 is the last day of the night closures, anti-snagging, stationary gear restriction, and fly fishing gear only rules.
Lewis River – Bank anglers are primarily catching coho while boat anglers are primarily catching fall chinook.
Washougal River – No report on angling success. The first 300 hatchery coho of the season had arrived at Washougal Hatchery as of Oct. 19 . Oct. 31 is the last day of the anti-snagging rule and stationary gear restrictions. In addition, night fishing will be allowed from the Mt. Norway Bridge upstream to the Salmon Falls Bridge.
